Default Ignition switch

I have recently purchased a Lock set for my 1960 corvette as I mislaid the original keys.
How do I remove the old barrel (without a key)?

As far as I know, you need a key to remove the tumbler.
That being said, you may be able to have a locksmith come to your home and fabricate a key so you can remove the tumbler.

Take a look at the old door locks and see if you can get the key code off one of them. All the locks in your car are supposed to use the same key assuming it was not changed along the line. Otherwise take one of the locks to a good locksmith and have him find the code for you with a Briggs & Stratton master key set. In fact, I have seen people try a bunch of random keys and often get one to work. There were not that many combinations back then. You will need a key to remove the old cylinder without damage.
