Hey out there... I ordered the correct spring and accelerator bracket, supposedly, for the '58 engine install. Carb seems to not be able to idle properly- not sure if this spring/bracket set-up is right.

Any help with some pictures of the correct spring setup for '58 283, 1x4 carb?

TIA

Steve,

The 1x4 spring setups that are sold out there have have too long a spring for years!
I am pretty sure that is is the same setup that 59 and 60 cars used and that setup is a tab mounted under one of the Tstat housing bolts and a lime green or black spring going back to the carb. The springs are just too long or do not have enough tension to pull the carb back reliably to the idle position. You can hear the C1 cars at any NCRS meet having their throttles being "blipped" to get the engine to idle down!

I shortened and put a new bend in the spring on my 60 and never had another problem with it. I repainted the spring after modifying it and the spring judged fine at flight judging. I probably have a pic at the house and will try and remember to post it tonight. It does not take much shortening to make it work fine.
