Default Wrong PS pump or is it something else?

I bought a PS setup removed from a 74 car that I thought would bolt right on to my 63. I tried to installed the pump today so I can see what I need for a crank pulley, but the pump didn't fit. Pump pulley hits the front cross-member of the frame. Pump pulley is pressed on to the pump, which - through research - is from a 75 and later vehicle.
I want to make sure that it is just the wrong pump and not something else wrong here.
Can someone please measure the width (same measurement as in my picture) of a correct pump? And the diameter of a correct pump pulley?
Thanks a million!

You need the older pump that lines up with pulleys on short water pumps and has a filler that leans forward a little.

Here's some pics of my '66 pump and brackets. You can see the deep dish pulley is way different than what you have.

Thanks Buns. Can I ask you to retake a pic with a ruler against it? When I expand your photo up to actual size, it appears my pump pulley is out almost an inch more.

IMO the pulley you have works on an A-C car with the add on third crank pulley.

To my eye, the pump and pulley configuration in your picture looks right. The pump pulley does not need the offset seen in the picture of the '66 pump.

Here are a pair of photos of the PS pump on my '63. This is the original pump on a factory-installed system:

Hope this helps you figure out what the problem is.

Thanks Jim! How much clearence do you have from the bottom of the pulley to any part of the frame? Can you get a finger in between?

My pulley is the cast iron one for the 350 HP engine with no A/C. I believe it is meant to run off the 2nd pulley groove. For what it's worth, it is 4.25" from the front of the pulley to the back of the pump. The pulley is 6.125" in diameter. Distance from the centerline of the pulley to the machined surface of the block is 4.125".

I also had pulley clearance issues on my car. I never did get to the root of the problem. I ended up building a custom bracket with an aftermarket power steering pump.

Here is a link to my post about this problem back in 2007:

The point of closest approach between pulley and frame is between the very bottom of the pulley and the rear, lower control arm mount.

I can just get my fingers between the pulley and mount. Everywhere else there is generous clearance.

You need the correct pump, bracket, and pump pulley for your application to make it work without interferences.
