Maybe apples and oranges, but... I went to a local show about a month ago- had all Corvettes lumped into the same class. A very nicely restored 62 placed 2nd to a 2010 Z06 that as near as I could tell had been washed. And that is a very good example of why I don't show my cars.

I know this may sound crazy to many but my 2 cents is that your Corvette should be judged by a person that ether owns or restored the year Corvette he's judging. Isn't that a crazy idea ?????????
Anyone agree????????
I disagree, that’s like having a judge that has committed a similar crime to be a judge in our juridical system. No, it should be about qualifying putting in the time required and education, education, education. If we had judges that judge based on only cars they owned, it would become bias, and favoritism would enter the arena.

Most of the local shows around here have gone away from a class system, judge all the cars in a single class. They look at paint, interior, engine compartment, etc., etc., and award up to 10 points for each of 10 areas being judged. (I don't enter/judge car shows. I go and emcee the event, and play the old 50's music for the local Lion's Club here each year).

The local show here orders 90 or so trophies if they expect 90 or less entries. Then, the top 30 points cars get a 1st place trophy, the next 30 points cars get a 2nd place, and so on. This year attendance at the annual Father's Day show was down due to heavy rains in the morning and everybody got either a 1st or 2nd place trophy. Everybody was happy this year as nobody got less than 2nd place, everybody went home happy, and nobody (much) complains about how they were judged, and everybody (mostly) comes back next year. Gets you out of that old "I (or he) was in the wrong class, I (or he) should have been in the ***** class".

Means nothing in my book, I've got no use for trophies anyhow, but always take my car for viewing and park it without entering. Just make a donation to the Lion's in lieu of entering, they do good things with the proceeds.

Works for me, and is apparently working for all the folks who come and enter their cars as well!! Go figure!!

I've done many car shows over the years taking many cars I've had like Fords, Chryslers, Nomads Corvettes and other. And the first thing I do when I sign up is to write on it that I don't what to be judged . So I've never taken a Trophy or wonted one, and figure they could use the money for putting on the show. When I was in NCRS I did get a few awards. The cars I see and people I meet is my award .

Ron- would like to make a pitch for your local Lion's club to have you join. A lot of fun, and as you said- they do good things with the proceds. Thanks brother.

I've been in several "judged" shows like that and what it really comes down to is "subjective judging". Either I'm compared to a C-6 or I'm lumped in with all straight axles (53-62). So I try my best to keep my '62 as clean and factory correct as possible. But some local "judge" may not have a clue what the particulars are on my 'Vette, but he likes the color or cleanliness of my car .

I think they ( NCRS or others ) should let the owner judge his own car, and have an official check his paper.
