C2 with 283?

Weren't 63's offered with three different 327s? L84 being the baddest? (can't remember hp or RPOs for other two)
Now, could it have been installed after the fact to replace a blown up engine?? Maybe?

But definitely not offered from the factory or an option to be ordered...

..and he again reassured me that it had a 283 from the factory..

A lot of Corvettes have ended up with 283's over the years, as well as 307's, 305's, 350's, 400's, etc. People break engines and replace them with whatever is convenient, or cheapest.
The guy you were talking too, probably knows someone that owns one of the first Corvettes built also. One of the ones with a steel body!
