Got a broken odometer. Anybody fixed one before? Guages were totally rebuilt around 8 years ago. I have heard that the usual culprit (problem) is that the small shaft breaks behind the guage cluster. Is this true or are there places to check before getting into that area. Speedo works fine. In any case if that is the problems how hard is it to fix and how long??
If the speedo works. then you'll have to pull it out to fix.
I Just removed the cluster in my 64 (no ac),Had it out in 1 hr. not bad for a old man with a bad back, long 1/4 20 bolts to support the cluster and drop the column.
the 1st gear that is driven off the speedo was stripped (not sure of the proper
terminology) I had a spare speedo that the speed is way off so I robbed the gear off of it. did not have to dissassemble the speedo head itself to change the gear . just slid it out
to check the function spin the speedo with a cordless drill and watch what doesn't work. hope this helps some.

I have same situation , my speedo works but , both trip & odo dont, bought gear but its plastic...my understanding is the original gear was metal & unreliable , only good for 50,000 miles ....will be pulling inst cluster this winter to clean up gauges & fix odo ..... :smash: need to have somthing to do in the winter....it snowed last night , about 1/2 " on grassy surfaces , burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A related question. How do I get the trip odometer out? Speedo and regular odometer work fine. The trip odometer middle number (10's of miles) is half off. Displays between numbers.
I have had a problem with the daily odometer too. I found all the parts (gears) for it at Long Island Corvette Supply and fixed it easily. But yes you have to remove the whole works.
