Ozone Generator for freshening musty interiors?
I was having a conversation with a pro car detailer this evening and he said that it in the event of a car interior with strong musty odor, from storage or whatever, cleaning carpets and upholstery usually isn't enough.
He insisted the best way to handle it is the use of an ozone generator, which cleans the air and destroys mold and mildew in the carpet, and under the dash and ducts where you can't reach. It sounded like a lot of smoke and mirrors, but I found a lot of people talking the machines up online in a search. The detailer says he commonly uses one in older car trade-ins with musty, stinky, animal smell or smoke smelly cars.
Anyone have any experience with this?

I used one recently one my convertible. The top installer was a smoker and the smell from him?/shop was still there after 1 1/2 years! It seems to have worked pretty well. I've also used it in the house for mildewy smells since it's closed up for several wekks at a time. The main thing to remember is to stay out of the room/house while it's running. If you use it let us know if it helps you

My '66 coupe had an "aroma" from a leaking brake master cylinder into the driver's floorboard and the ozone machine worked really well. I actually use it every few months, those Corvette carpets seem to retain every scent (including my Aqua Velva) and the ozoner takes them out. I love it.

I can tell you after several years as a used car dealer that cigar smoke, pet odors and mildew are the worst....they will linger even after replacing all the 'soft goods' in a car. The smell permeates the dash material, armrests, seat foam, headliner you-name-it. Not just carpet and backing.
If some whiz-bang ozone device works I'm sure we'd all love to hear about it.

Look on the internet and you'll see quite a few. Do a little research to be sure you're getting a good one. I originally ordered one out of Nevada (I think) but they messed up the order. So I went elsewhere (Ebay). I think they start around 125.00 for a decent one. Just do a little research to be sure you get one big enough for your needs.

my friend is a detailer, he swears by his ozonator, not many smells that you can't get rid of but close the car up and don't get in for a while after you turn it off, usually an hour or so.
