I searched and could not find any guidance on this topic. My emblems on the body are faded or have lost some paint. What are the suggestions...either re-furbish or replace? Have any of you tried to re-paint these emblems or is there a service that reconditions them cheaper than replacement?
I redid my originals. The red isn't exact but it is close. I cleaned out all of the old paint. Then I taped over the emblem and cut out the areas I needed to paint. Its a little harder with the checkered flag but it can be done. After getting them painted in color I sprayed with a light coat of clear.
Modeling paints can be used to refurbish the paint on the emblems. That's what I did.
Enamel reducer was used to thin the paint. The thinned paint will then flow out into the cavity being painted by dabbing the brush into it. If painted on without using reducer brush marks will be seen. A couple of times the finished result didn't turn out as well as I would have liked. In that case carburetor cleaner was used to spray away all the paint and the process started over.
If you are daubing paint and see the brush marks. Mist over the paint with a thinner. If compatible, it will melt the daubed paint all together and look GREAT.
