I originally adjusted the lifters using the method you mentioned where you spin the pushrod. I tried to go back and adjust them with it running, but it has open headers right now so I can't hear the rocker clack.
The 650 Holley is temporary until the 3x2 setup is rebuilt
I did a compression check last night just to be safe all the cyylinders were around 160-180psi
I am trying to set the timing in a modified 427/390hp. In order to make it run my initial timing needs to be set really high, like 30 deg. The carb is running rich and I am not reading very much vacuum.
This sounds like a vacuum leak, a major one. Did you have the new distributor setup with a curve kit and the correct vacuum cannister?? If they did not pay attention to the gear clocking that can cause problems.
I think I'm going to try putting the old points distributor back in next week and try that. My Dad ordered the HEI so I have no idea what is going on with it.
PROBLEM SOLVED
We took the distributor out of my 75 and put in in the big block and it runs like a champ now. Turns out the Ebay HEI with tach drive was a piece of crap. I guess I learnt my lesson. Thanks for everyones help.
