I have read the entries on pilot bushing so I went to Auto Zone to order a Federal Mogul PB 656 HD. What they ordered came back a Timkin PB 656 HD. But it was a bearing and not the bushing everyone here is talking about. Did Timkin buy out Federal Mogul ? Why did the part # come back as a bearing and not the bushing?
I did my search by phone. I called the parts place and asked them if they had the part # in stock. When they said yes, I asked them to make sure it was a bushing and not a bearing. I also had them grab a magnet and see if it sticks to the bushing, even a little bit.
Auto Zone was the first place that had it in stock and could verify it was not magnetic. I didn't want to drive all over the place and wait in lines to be disappointed.

Think you are the 2nd person here on the forum that has reported this. I saw this a few months back.
Auto Zone Sells Timken as their primary bearing and seal line. O'Reilly and many other parts stores sell Federal-Mogul bearings, now known as National Bearings but still owned by Federal Mogul. Formerly this same product line has been known as BCA Bearings. Federal Mogul has owned them since the 1920's but the name has changed from BCA to National and might change again to the Moog Name, another product that Federal Mogul owns. The Auto Zone person must have thought you could not tell the difference.
This is a pic of the one I got from Auto Zone. It looks like the same box as John Z has, but mine does have BCA on it. Maybe this has been on their shelf for years.
That is an old BCA box, and it is the correct part you are looking for. Your Autozone must have ordered it in from one of the suplliers for you. The Autozone that served 65BBRat took a short cut and ordered in the Timken part. The new Federal Mogul boxes have dropped the BCA name. I understand they purchased rights to use the BCA name way back and have paid royalties to use the name since that purchase. In the past few years they have decided to sell the bearings under the Federal Mogul owned brand names and avoid paying this annual fee. In the future you may see these marketed as National or Moog, same product new logo.
What an ordeal trying to find an Oilite pilot bushing. I decided to replace the GM needle bearing I have in my crank before it craps out.
I went to an independent autoparts store yesterday and asked for a PB-656-HD and the guy says, "so you want the one with needle bearings?" I said no and he said that the HDs were all bearings and not bushings. He shows me a generic parts box and sure enough its labeled PB-656-HD and its a bearing. So he pulls out a LUK clutch kit and takes out the pilot bushing but its not Oilite, its solid bronze. On to the next store.
I then try O'Reiley's who no longer carries National but just switched to SKF. Their PB-656-HD is also a bearing and the guy shows me a PB-656 and the darn thing is gray in color and it's steel.
Tried NAPA this morning and they carry SKF, same parts as O'Reiley.
I guess I'll try Autozone tomorrow and see if the Timken bushing is solid bronze or Oilite, otherwise I'll be going to GM to pay twice as much for a decent bushing.

I purchased one (same as on John's pic), and was surprised to see my engine builder supplied the engine with a pilot bushing. (same one)
So, I have an unused pilot bushing on my shelf if you need one.
I called Autozone and they ordered in a Timken PB656HD for me and the damn thing is a bearing. Just went to GM and ordered the ZR1 anti chatter bushing, PN 10125896.
