Default Lights not working

Hi again!

Anyone have some tips on where to start diagnosing headlights that aren't working?

The lights will fold up with no problems, but they won't turn on when you pull the light switch..... I was thinking the bulbs could just be burned out, but for all four to be burned out, I doubt that would happen.

Anywhere to start diagnosing would be a big help!

Thanks!

Chris

There's a breaker in the headlight switch. There's a ground up front and the wires between. If you have a DVM, I'd start looking for 12 volts to the bulbs measuring to chassis ground. If you have it, the ground must be bad at the front. If not, move back to the dash connector and the switch. Check very carefully the dimmer switch on the floor, the voltage passes through there and they very often get charred and lose connection. Unbolt it from the floor and take a look at the connections.

Bad headlight switch
Bad dimmer switch

Did they ever work? If so, did anything change right before they stopped working?

What about the front parking lights, do they come on when the headlight **** is 1/2 way out?

Here's what I have so far...

The running lights come on when you pull the switch half way...

Turn up the headlamps and pull the light switch all the way out and the front running lights go out and no headlights go on....

Push the high beam floor switch on and off and nothing happens....

I also don't have any dash lights and when you turn on the left turn with no running or headlights on, I get a left turn signal and a very dim blinking right front turn.... very strange.

Looks like I have a lot of work to do. I'll get into looking for 12V at the headlights tomorrow. How do you take the headlights out?

Thanks! Sorry for all the questions, but i'm obviously new to C2's.

Rotate H/Lights so you can see them.
take out 4 small phillips screws 1 on each side 2 on the bottom of bezel, this will allow you to remove the bezel.

next

remove the Stainless steel ring around each headlight, now you have access to the H/lights

You may just have bad ground connections up front. That would explain the opposite signal flashing dim. Check the connectors and grounds. Measure the 12 volts on the dimmer switch, just in case.

And take some time and fill out your profile with location for more help.

This is a 65 wiring diagram, but it will show you how the dash lights and dimmer switch connect to the headlight switch in the lower right.
