Anyone know why Chevys BB Corvette used three duces instead of duel fours. When the first BB 427 hit the streets a guy here on Long Island used to drive around with the hood off his new Corvette with duel fours sitting on top. Was it a faster and better set up?
What I want to know is why they fooled with the 3X2's anyway.
A single four barrel will run as well and/or better than either the 3X2 or the 2X4 on the street.
......but if i were to go multiple carbs, it would be dual quads, i love to hear them "ring"
after all, the flat head guys were running multiple deuces before the first 4 barrel was conceived
i never did understand the mystique behind the 3x2 set ups or their popularity......jmo.....
Didn't Holley actually make a 3 barrel carb for a short time back in the 60's or 70's?
Yes they did. It was a BIG four barrel, with the secondary throttle plates siamesed together into a single plate.
It was a "bit oversized" for street use. CFM of around 1050 or so. Created an instant bog for most street cars that used it. But it had "bragging rights"

Larry-
Back in the day, a friend of mine had a 375 hp Nova, 4 speed car with either 3.36 or 3.08 gears. His wife bi****d and moaned about how hot it was in the car, so on the same weekend, he put a Holley 950 cfm 3 barrell, he put air conditioning on it. I bet him I could outrun him on foot for 100 feet (and won). What a POS those carbs were!

The Holley three barrel was a 950 CFM NASCAR carburetor that was introduced in the mid 60s. I have one sitting twenty feet away from me. The diaghrapm to control the secondaries is as big as your fist.
