Recently got a low mile 66 small block 300hp and it has developed a fuel delivery problem. To date: replaced rubber hoses front and rear on fuel lines. RR stone fuel filter. Set & reset fuel level on Holley carb. Checked fuel pressure runs @6psi. Scoped tank and sending unit. Clear and clean
Car starts and runs fine. After 15 miles or so it just runs out of fuel and sputters to a stop. Acts like a vapor lock. Fuel line from the pump to carb is bone dry. Prime the carb with a little gas and she starts and runs fine. Usually no further problems. Other than replacing a perfectly good fuel pump what other solutions might you have in mind. Sitting on the side of the road in a classic vette really sucks.
HELP
On some replacement fuel pumps, the pin is press fit in place and it eventually works loose. If you don't have AC, you should be able to see the pin from above.
Pics of original style pin peened over with retainer.
If you are convinced the sock on the sending unit is not clogging things up or some such then I'd be real tempted to swap out the fuel pump. Somebody on here had one of those little "poppit" valves fall out of the pump because it wasn't staked in and it caused some strange symptoms...
