The time has come! I have to choose the paint for my car. I decided a while back that I wanted to paint the car silver with a white cove, and red interior. Although my car is not completely original, I want the color combinations to look original as possible. Does anyone have or know where I can get the PPG paint codes (or ones that are as close as possible) for 1957 venetian red, inca silver, and whatever color white/off white they used in the coves. Thanks.
Re: I need some help on paint codes. (ZacharyLThomas)
The paint place *may* have it in the computer. They had some of the '58 color codes for me, but they didn't have the code for Signet Red (which was really a '58 only sorta-thing.) Since I got my car from ProTeam I called them up, and after a bit of explanation I talked to their "paint boss" who gave me the Ditzler and DuPont codes that they use to build their cars. I don't want to see your thread degenerate into a discussion of ProTeam's business practices (being screwed by them I'm not a fan of them) but it took a few phone calls and they were pretty helpful. I'm sure if you're to call them up claiming to be a former customer (it's not like they pull records to verify) you can get the info out of them.
Thanks a lot!! Do you know if they have a PPG paint code for Inca Silver or where I can get one? I don't think I have ever seen "Inca" Silver. I know I want my car to be silver and I am thinking more along the lines of a late model corvette silver, but I do want to compare the original silver, I might end up going with it instead since I want the color combination to look as original as possible. Thanks again for your help!
Re: I need some help on paint codes. (ZacharyLThomas)
Inca Silver was the first acrylic lacquer color used on the Corvette, so it does not have to be crossed from an original nitrocellulose lacquer; however, some say that the current formulas for the old metallic acrylic lacquers look different because the original metallic additives are no longer available, and the modern alternatives result in not quite original appearance if compared side to side.
Hey, thanks for the help. I went to a PPG distributor today and he came up with a PPG code of 33450 for Inca Silver from an offset, which was very close and what is even better is that it is a DBC (base coat/clear coat). My next issue. According to the corvette black book, there were 2,797 two-tone cars and 10 of which were Inca Silver/ivory. At first I thought the cove was shoreline beige, but it was ivory. Any help with the PPG code for this one? Is there a name for 1957 white/ivory besides just ivory? Again, I want to get it as close to original as possible, but I won't go crazy if it is a little off. Thanks again for all the help, Corvette Forum Rocks!
