Engine Decode
Trying to decode engine in my ’65 El Camino.
Block casting # 3858180
Some sites list as 1964-67 250-375HP passenger, chevelle or corvette
Others just 1964-67 250-300HP
Casting date E2864 = June 28, 1964 – it there 2 digit years? Is this the date stamp? Can't see any other date but hard to see.
Engine Pad = T0616S
T= Tonawanda, New York
06 = June
16 = 16
June 16 is before June 28th if casting date is correct
Suffix S = Some sites list as 1962 327 250HP powerglide
Which can’t be a 1962 with casting date of 1964
PO claims block was not in a car and sold as bare block with no emphasis on numbers.
Any ideas?
Currently Engine is a fresh rebuild to 350HP specs.

George,
One site (Chevymania) has the S suffix as 62,63, and 64 327-250 powerglide.

The 180 block was used for 327 250 & 300 horse engines from 1964-67. I show the "S" suffix as a 62, 63 & 64 327/250 Powerglide in a full size (Impala, Bel Air, Biscayne) Chevy.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think the 2 digit casting date year is common to Tonawanda small blocks. Flint engines did use a single digit year.
By the way, that's a good looking El Camino! I love them almost as much as Corvettes. I have a 71, that I bought new, and have had a few others over the years.

Still trying to figure out:
Cast Date of June 28, 1964 and Pad Stamp of June 16th
Probably not a restamp maybe just a bad stamp.
Anybody?

E28 would be May 28, not June 28.

"E" is May not June, stamp is June 16, looks correct to me.
