I have a telescopic column in my 65 coupe, when I got the car the horns were disconnected. I ran down the problem to a pinched wire in the column which I took care of, now I have another problem. I think the horn button is a reproduction and it seems like the fit is too tight between it and the lock ring. Sometimes the horn gets stuck on because of this tight fit, how much clearance should there be between the button and the inside of the lock ring? The plastic liner is in place, and it looks like it is original. Has anyone else had this problem?
I can't answer your question right off the top of my head but I have a tele column in my '66 and I'll take look tonight. Hopefully someone will answer your question today but if not I'll take a couple of picture and post them in the morning.
Here are the pictures I promised, hope they do some good.
If you need shots of something diferent let me know. I did notice that the distance from the wheel to the contacts is difference around the opening but there is some movement in the screw holes of the contact plate that may help.
Thanks for the pictures, mine looks the same as yours in that area. My problem is the fit seems to be too tight between the horn button and the locking ring as seen in the following pictures. Is yours this tight?
I had a problem with my 65 tele. I didn't have the horn aways on problem but I did notice that when I installed the original horn button everything got better. Two or three horn buttons latter. Very expensive lesson.
Also, had problems with the contact. Had to get an original.
I took a look at my horn buttom assembly and didn't notice any problem with fit. Below are a couple of pictures I took and you can see that there is plenty of clearance. Hope you figure this out.
