Water base paint????
has anyone had their corvette painted with the new water base paint? i'm about to have my 58 fulie , 2 top, 4 speed, power window painted.
this water base paint sounds creepy to me. the car is original snowcrest white / silver cove w/charcole int. friends tell me to change the color scheme. now is the time. what paint schemes w/charcole interior do you guys like? what kind of paint do you prefer. i'm in california so "spray laquer.. GO TO PRISON" thank for your imput..
unfortunately 'water based' paint is the mandated wave of the future, even becoming more 'popular' here in Florida due to environmental sensitivity. the ironic part is that it is only the base coat portion of the BC/CC system, the CC is still solvent based.
my paint supplier says that it does an acceptable job but the biggest problem is with blending during repair section applications; more of a technique issue than anything else.
we all need to get used to it, it's coming ....

We have had lots of shops over here converting to waterborne painting systems. I have heard results of no good to it's ok and good ? The Clear is still 2 part solvent based paints. I'm not sure when the clear is going to go waterborn as well ? White with the silver cove is a classy colour. I had 20 friends around my place a few years ago and we were deciding what the colour the Vette should be. Out of 20 people 10 guys and 10 girls said white silver cover and red gut interior. Second was red and white and third was silver. I unveiled the rear board in the trunk for the first time that night and it said Tuxedo so that's what it's going to be. ( I already knew that due to the over spray in the tunk and interior areas ). So White was the peoples vote . Make sure you post pictures of the car ! Stewy

I had my '71 painted about 15 years ago with a Sherwin Williams waterborn paint and it came out really good. I was worried at first but was really pleased with the results. Although the car is always in the garage, not conditioned, the paint has held up really well with no signs of cracking or anthing but a few stone chips - and those are my fault.

I would say silver blue with silver coves also and if you could change the interior to silver blue.
Otherwise white single color with the interior you have.

I doubt I'll have to worry about it being mandated where I live. I can still go to any supplier and buy, and legally spray lacquer if I so desire. By the time they make water base mandatory, my painting days will be long gone (and I may be as well).
All modern assembly plants use waterborne basecoat; the EPA requirement for "best available technology" in assembly plant Paint Shop upgrades and replacements ten years ago pretty much legislated solvent-borne basecoat out of existence. Nobody has yet invented a waterborne clearcoat that works, so 2K clear remains solvent-borne.
