Default Engine Pad Vin Stamp Help

Take a look at the 0 in this vin. Anyone have any thoughts about that? Advertised as original engine, just thinking about this car, all the other dates and numbers match up.

Before you can make an evaluation of the 0 and the pad you must carefully remove all the paint from the pad.

Not possible in this case. Maybe after I bought it, but then what?

Offer the guy NOM money for the car if he's not willing to remove the paint. Why pay 'original engine' money and hope that it works out?

Not really relevant to the 0, but its interesting that you can see that some of the orange has chipped off substantially and its been "brushed" back on (or sprayed, I guess, but I see brush lines) which seems like someone really wanted the paint ON the pad.

Just in conversation, Id ask the seller why he doesnt remove the paint.

If the seller is not willing to remove the paint. If it was me I then would have to assume that it is NOT the original motor and price the car as such. Is he selling the car as "original motor" or "matching numbers"?
Big difference.
As far as the O goes. If everything else on the pad looks good, once the paint is removed, then the O would not bother me.
But you have to see the broach marks and look at the pad as a whole to determine if it's the "original motor".
Just my 2 cents worth.

Yes, it's only fair, and if he states that he will not remove the paint from the pad, and will offer to the next buyer and pressures you, then walk away with dignity.

Cars that have paint on the pad (which the owner refuses to remove) have something to hide. It's as simple as that.

Thanks John, I was hoping you'd see this. I didn't ask him to take it off, I just don't like the look of the 0. I've never seen a loop like that in one before. Everything else looks great. If I was on the verge of handing over cash, I'd ask to remove it, but I wanted someone to look at the loop in the 0. Thanks again.

I think what you are seeing in the O is a little bit of an illusion. It is just stamped deep on the upper edge, but the whole gang is also cocked to the upper edge which is what you would expect to see.

Are you paying a matching numbers price? I you're paying a price closer to nom levels it's a moot point.

I'm glad you found something, good luck. Leather, when did the Corvettes start using leather?
