I have a 383 in mine and really don't care for it, though lots of guys love them. It makes good HP, 460 at the flywheel, and a ton of torque, but I miss the sound of a good 327 that will wind up to 8000 if the mood strikes me.

8000? I think mine would blow up. I don't think I've had mine over 5000

I used to have a 383 Stroker...great motor...even powerband and awesome idle...mine was a screamer...big block power with out the BB weight.

I was going to do a SB to BB swap but too much pain...i had the 383 bolted in and running the same day it was delivered.

I remember guys used to race with 283's or 327's and have them redline @ 9200rpm. Screamers

Do realize that with a BB or BB capacity small block, you will be stressing the rest of the drivetrain. There is a reason they upgraded a lot of the components when GM put BB into production. Also those drum brakes may not do the job getting it whoa-ed down.

No matter which route you choose? It's very costly.

I have a thing about not putting a BB in a C2 yr that a BB wasn't available.

IMHO always looks like a hack. No matter how nicely done.
