On the 1967 BB Chrome Ignition box that surrounds the distributor (the bottom part - not the lid) there is a long curled tab that is welded to the center front of it with teeth at the end of it facing the back tri power carb.
What is that for and what should it be touching??
Must be some sort of grounding point? Looks like it should touch the base of he air cleaner??
Yep, that's the ground tab. Should be making contact with the base, I believe. Yours may not be positioned correctly, or you may have one for the 390 horse engine.
They were usually riveted to the top shield though, not welded. If you have an AIM, take a look in the radio section, as it will show the installation of the clip.
That clip was riveted to the shield, and there were two different ones - one for L-36, and one for L-71; see page 437 in Noland's book for drawings of both clips.
Yes mine is riveted - and its for a L71 - Just need to bend the tab more upward - That ground seems to be overkill as the entire ignition shieling is grounded bigtime w/o this tab - Thanks Guys!
