Default 1964 327 300 hp valve cover clearance issue

So I installed some original stock orange valve covers that I purchased from a major vendor and the rockers on the drivers side of the vehicle are hitting the covers.Has anyone else had this problem.

I'd be checking for something wrong with those rockers, or studs before something gives. No way they should be touching. Is the motor stock? You CAN put double gaskets and get away with it, but if only one or two are touching?........it's talking to you!

If you have stock rocker arms, you may have one or both of your covers upside down.

Stock 461 heads. I believe I the covers orientated correctly. The passenger side has a couple clips that I have faced up but maybe because the cover that I'm using for the drivers side has no clips I could have it upside down,,,boy the cover looks like it can be installed either way. I'll take some pics

I did use a thicker gasket and yes it is only the one (#7) that's hitting, mmm

I believe the one with the clip should be on the drivers side. The clip holds the temperature wire. You really should have valve cover bolt reinforcements under the VC bolts. They are designed to spread the weight of tightening the bolts, to lessen the chance that the covers will leak.

Non of this should effect rocker clearance. I would swap the covers, but I can't imagine that it would fix the problem. You really should pull the covers and take a look at that number 7 rocker and stud.

the #7 rocker does also sound like it's sticking. I got my brother to take out his plasma cutter and make me up a set of these so I can do an adjustment on all the rockers without making a big mess

I have some vc bolt spreaders but the thicker gasket seemed to work well for leaks
Really I would think the valve covers would be interchangable

Stock steel covers are not symmetrical.

It's subtle, but stock covers have a "C" stamped on the inboard lip for orientation (not that you need it for the clipped side).

Does the "C" mean carburetor side? Possibly. Maybe somebody has the definitive answer to that one.

That's correct - if you have contact between the pushrod end of the rocker arm and the cover, you have the cover on backwards.

Maybe "C" means Center?

I didn't see any "C" but at least I will have the drivers side on correct ie with the clips for the temp sensor faced up and if the other side makes any noises, I will flip it around.

If you look at the cover in the end view, you'll see the difference in L & R sides of the cover.

That's because you have repro covers.

The same valve covers that are chrome plated for a Chevy II L 79 have the "C" also. The repop valve covers don't.
