It sounds to me as if the gauge is missing power or not working.
A gauge with no ohms input will read full,
A gauge with a grounded ohms wire will read empty,
It could also be a ground issue at the sending unit...
Go to the sending unit and with the key on remove the ohms wire.. see if the gauge goes to full. Then ground out the ohms wire and see if it goes to empty. If if gauge functions to full and empty you have a sending unit issue.
Wire from Tan to ground, gauge went to Full.
Wire from Pink to ground, blew fuse. So I'd say it has power.
Now what?
Explain again, how I check to see if it goes to empty?
Hum.. you pulled the tan wire and it went to full that is good.. Now replace the fuse and ground out the tan wire.. see if it goes to empty.
If it goes to empty then make sure the ground on the sending unit is good...
Then if you have a good idea about how much fuel is in the car... take an ohms reading on the sending unit and see what it says.
A full tank should have 90 ohms. 67.50 would be 3/4, and zero is empty. If the tank is full and you have an ohms reading of 67 or so.. then you have a problem in the sending unit.
Then post back..

When I pulled the tan wire, went from 3/4Full(where it stays now, with everthing plugged in), to 1/2 tank. Then I grounded the tan wire, and gauge went slowly to full. Nothing I did made the gauge go to empty. Any suggestion/ Going to read the link above.
I'll be calling you tomm.!
Thanks.
Did you take a reading off the sending unit to see what ohms it was putting out in relation to how much fuel is in the car?
I have a tester that I can hook a gauge to and simulate issues... so we'll figure this out. I won't be in the office tomorrow.. I'll be in the shop.. so send an email to Willcoxcustomerservice@willcoxcorvette.c om. That's the best way to reach me.
The link John posted is very.. very helpful too...
I don't mean to take the attention off the initial poster but I have a problem with my fuel gauge too. It never goes above 1/4 of a tank. I just bought this 1964 red Vette and it is just like my first new car. I remember that I had the same problem 47 years ago but then it was under warranty so I don't know what the dealer did to fix it. Do any of you folks know what causes this problem?
I've been living with a gauge that never reads more than 3/4 full. This thread has motivated me to crawl under there and do my own checking. Thanks for the push…
Joe
Sounds like you’re on the right thread to diagnose your problem. Between what’s posted here and John’s link, you should have enough to begin checking.
