You'll have to define what you want to call "early" and "late"; those terms don't apply to the car, they apply to the usage period of individual parts which had running changes during the model year. Some changed a month after startup, some changed during the last month of production, and some changed between those times; "early" vs. "late" depends on those change dates for each affected part.
OK, Well my vins last 9 digits are 675100070. So my car is #70 in the production year run (AUG 62 ) "They" said they made so many Early cars, just wondering if they stopped at a production number?
I have an early Coupe 30837S110361 it should have been built on or about Monday Sept. 24 around lunch time give or take, according to the Birthday Book. It has the tool well under the driver seat and is # matching.
70demi, you may want to check your Vin again, it don't look right to me. The 675100070 may be 37S100070, look at it again.

I think you meant "30867S100070" not "5".
There are numerous changes that distinguish "early" 63's from later in the production year. Like fiberglass vs. steel headlight buckets, seat wells, T-10 trans/shifter vs. Muncie trans/shifter, wonderbar radio vs. AM/FM pushbutton, spare tire lock and the list goes on. You should consult Noland Adams Restoration book Vol 2 and ask specific questions regarding a concern you may have on this or the NCRS C2 Forum.
I have what I consider an "early" 63. My convert. has the tool boxes under the seats, the roller gas lid, a buzzer tac, for fuelies only- i think-, the plastic covered glovebox door and i can't think of any more at this time. In my opinon my car is probably the very last of the so called "early 63s" with production # 8868. Questions -Dave 864-380-4796
I have a mid october '62 340 Daytona Blue vert. It has the footwells as well as the buzzer tach and the t-10. I believe some 340's as well as fuelie's had the buzzer tach. It also has a.m. only radio. Hope this helps.

OK, Here we go guys, production number is 30867S100070 Car has;fiberglass headlight buckets, tool box wells, roller gas door,T10 trans, wonderbar am radio, plastic covered glove box door, long base outside mirror, Aug 62 on the back of radio ,has four attaching screws on each of the running boards, and the raised portion under the outside door handle. Now according to dcroker, mine would be the one hundred thousand and seventh car built? (somethings not right)
According to my Nolan Adams on page 16 ,there were 25 prototype bodies and approx. 15 coupe bodies that were assembled for the training centers where they were used to train dealer mechanics on Corvette electrical problems. These resembled a completed 63 with no drive train ,they were on a portable dolly.

Naaa, Those first pilot cars were full fledged cars and many have since been sold to the public. They were built earlier but have the normal sequential serial numbers. The production cars just carried on the serial numbers.

Does it have the notch cut all along the hood surround panel, just in front of the hood?

Nope. All midyear VIN numbers started with a "1" - that was a "place-holder"; the last five digits define the production sequence. Yours is #70.

As others have pointed out, 'early' and 'late' are defined by the particular part or configuration of part.
All 63's had the plastic glove box door but your roadster #70 should also have the painted surface between the dash eyebrows where the radio is, which would only be an 'early' wonderbar am type for your car.
My coupe is pretty much 'mid-production' #15,240. It has no under seat tool box wells but it does have the 'early' roller type door.
I have listed over 3,000 cars in my 1963 research file but had no info on your '63.
What is the cars colors and engine hp, trans etc.?
What is your cars Body number from your trim tag??
How can I tell if my car has a "BUZZER" tach??? Dave
It was only on the 63 340HP and 360 HP, take you car out and stand on it to red line when you here a buzzer go off behind you clock you will know you have one. Or just look at the fuse box for a pink wire pluged in it, is the power for the buzzer.
I am suprised no one has mentioned the hood blocks which are on my car, #8967.
In addition to the items listed in the previous posts, are there any other items specific to an "early" '63?
