Working on future plans and collecting parts. The question is regarding the fuel pump to support an LS6 with fuel injection. Is the an option to use an aftermarket in-line fuel pump rather that an in-tank style pump?
It can be done with an external but in tank is highly recommended. I have an in tank and added the external as a redundant when the in tank failed a couple of years back. After dropping the tank and waiting for the replacement pump to arrive I figured it would be better to be able to switch pumps and keep driving rather than be stuck on the road if I were to suffer a fuel pump failure away from home. Now I switch off monthly between the pumps to keep both systems alive and well.
The in tank pump has the standard sock filter on the pick-up and the external pump has a filter in line between the tank and the pump intake.
Both pumps feed to a common in-line filter and from the filter forward to the injection.
I agree, in tank is the better way to go, however I am running a inline external MSD pump. I do have over 7000 miles on this setup without issue, I have side pipes, so I cannot hear the pump run with the motor running, I hear the pump come on when I cycle the key, but after the car is running, I do not hear it.
Sounds like we are on similar projects, if you want to meet up send me a pm.
I just installed a in tank Walbro 225 for my LS3. Should be around 530 crank HP. From what I have read and been told and seen this pump should be good to 550 RWHP.
