Just removed my instrument cluster using John Hinckley's great instructions. Sent the cluster to Corvette Specialties of MD West for reconditioning. When taking out the cluster, I discovered that the capacitors on the ammeter and the ignition switch are missing. I assume they are used to eliminate radio interference. Looks like ZIP has them for $25 each. How big of a deal is it if I leave them off and will it cost me judging points?
But, to answer he questions, It is not a big deal, especially if you don't listen to your radio much, and yes, it will cost you judging points.
If you want them, you can buy originals from Doc Rebuild for about $40 each.
And if you're in a fairly urban area and listen to FM, you won't notice anything at all without them. Weak stations and AM reception are affected the most without the caps. I put them on anyway like the earlier post suggests.
