Back when the '63 Stingray body came out people referred to our cars as (C1) Corvettes and (C2) Stingrays. When the C3 body came on the scene in '68 I began hearing the 63-67 cars as midyears since the bodystyle fell between Corvette and the then current style.

Just my take on it as I recall it.

Who knows, I don't like it much but it's better than C2.

I first heard the term when I started looking for a car in 1978/79. People would ask me if I was looking for an early vette, mid-year or newer shark style. Prior to that I always referred to them a Corvettes, whether they were from 53 through 62 or 63 to 67. The only differentiation that I remember was people referring to FI, Truck Motor (BB) and Split Window depending on the particular model you were looking for.

because the early sixtys had one style of corvette and the late sixtys had the 3rd style so these were only manufactured in the "mid" sitxty "years"

just a guess it was before my time

just read you said who not why

Tom Parsons I believe started the Mid Year and C1 C2 terms, but I know how modest he is and will not take credit for it.

Maybe it was just one of those things that caught on, I like the term, easy to say and almost everyone knows what it means.

I made it up back in 68 because I bought my first 65 in June, and I called it my midyear car.

This dude that I know named Skip told me that it was him. But then he also told me that is HIS idea for the "high five", Dunkin' Donuts and the "Fluffer-Nutter". He claims that the '67 model is the best midyear ever.

REVETTE.......YOU ARE 100% CORRECT ! During these days at the POMONA SWAY meet in 1975, the term "IT'S A 63-TO 7 CAR", also was coined, that is 1963 vin, 64 hood, 65 seats, 67 big block engine, with 'HOOKER' side pipes, etc., etc. When these cars got broken, we used whatever was available to fix them.

can't go along with that one Ray, '67 has to be a "last year" midyear, '63 a 1st yr midyear and the mighty '65 is the true midyear midyear .....

That's what Wikipedia says. Tom Parsons was also responsible for the development and production of the 400 cid SB Chev, too.

Obama claimed he coined the phrase. But he can't find any documentation to back it up

As a side note, how bizarre is this :

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c1-a...327-350-a.html

The name Skip is mentioned, and it is a '67 350hp ... I can only assume that it's not silver.
