Hi, I have a block with casting # 3970010, looks like the date code was grinded off. The front pad is stamped TO928 CMR 14B437004
Any idea what I have? The person I bought it from said it came out of a late 60's corvette. Some list the casting # to be a 327 in 1968, and others list it to be a 350 in 1968 to 1972. But the front pad really has me confused. Thanks for any help, 63 silverpearl

Reason: spelling error
The T in TO928 CMR identifies it as an engine that was assembled on September 28th at the Tonawanda plant but no SB Corvette engine were assembled there.
CMR was used three times:
1974 350 tur hydro trans. - 145 2 A
1978 350 m/t L82 4 220 4 Vette/Z-28
1980 305 auto trans. H LG4 155 4 full size
The 1978 application can be ruled out, leaving the 1974 and 1980 possibilities. The first 4 in the VIN derivative 14B437004 is for 1974, so it's a 145HP 2 bbl from an A body car, (Chevelle, Malibu, El Camino, Monte Carlo). It was built in the 'B' Baltimore plant, serial number 437004.
Mike, thanks for the quick reply. What about the casting #? Internet searches show it was
used in 1968, '69, '70.'71 and '72. I wasn't able to find that casting # used any later than that. Possible some one took an old block. had the date code removed and re stamped it?
I know anything is possible
The 0010 block was cast from '68 to '79 in all four GM engine plants and is the most commonly available casting # of any SBC. There was probably a multi-bazillion of them made
