I have a 1960 Hard top with a black roof headliner. Is it possible to die it red over black. It's in excellent condition and would be a shame to remove to install a red one. I live in Australia so it would be bin material if I remove it ! Any thoughts ? Stewy
There's no reason why you can't dye the headliner, that I know of. Most of the hard plastic repro interior pieces for 68-82 Corvettes, are molded in black, and get spray dyed red, tan, white, etc.
Make sure that it's really clean first, and you may want to use a dye primer, to help the red dye cover the black.
Yes you can dye the headliner. When I got my hardtop it had a black headliner and I dyed it silver blue. Came out great. Just take your time and like another poster stated make sure the surface is super clean. I used brake clean on a rag. (it leaves no film and evaporates fast) Take care to mask off the plexi and areas you do not want overspray on otherwise you will have a mess on your hands. Good luck with your project.

I dyed my dash, windlace and sunvisors from black to red, and I am very pleased with the results. You would never know that it was done.
One key is to use a primer. I tried the sunvisors without primer at first and it didn't cover well and took way to many coats to cover and it was just not good enough. With the primer the red dye was perfect.
The 2nd key is to wash everything down carefully with SEM soap. Used Corvette America dye and primer. 1 can of primer and 2 cans of dye was enough for my project.
Thanks Terry I really appreciate your response. Unicolour is used in lots of our areas. I'll ring to speak to a rep. I noticed that the dashboard doctor uses their gear who once repaired a dash in my daily driver many years ago. I'll give them a tingle ! Say hello to the red head looking after the country for me ! I like Canberra had many classic car weekends there. Stewy
