I pulled the steering column out the other day for a dash cluster restoration and putting in a rebuilt steering gear box. I have heard of date codes on steering columns and discovered what I believe to be the date code on my column. I am not sure what is going on the stamping as it appears to have the day/date upside down. The attached picture appears to show 1, then upside down 19, then 7. I am thinking (which can be very dangerous) that the date code decipher would be Jan 19,1967. The production date of my car is June 19,1967. Any help on this steering column date code issue would be appreciated.
thats the 161st day of 1967 or June 10th. do you have a late car
Yep, as stated in the original post, June 19th. So, to decipher the date code they used the day number of the year then 1 digit for the year?
If so, sorta funny the middle 2 digits are upside down.

Thanks to all for the info. John, where were he columns built and was it a GM product or a vendor?
Rick
The complete column assembly (as shown in the Assembly Manual, UPC 9, Sheet A4, item #2, and in the photo below) was built and painted by Saginaw Steering Gear (GM Division) in '67, the first year of the collapsible column. Previously, the column was built up at St. Louis.
