Default Temp guage reading marks

On my 67 the water temp. reading I have a mark at 210 and a mark between cold (100) and 210. Does anyone know what the temp. should be at that mark with a Ir reading a the Temp. sending unit?
Thanks
Dave

If the temp gauge and sending unit were accurate and linear, you would read 155.

The only way to test your gauge reading is to compare it with IR readings.

My understanding of the question was, what should the temperature be at that mark?

I've always assumed it was linear, starting at 100, going to 210. Splitting the difference would be 155. Whether that was the intention of the designers/engineers at Chevy I can't say.

When I used the IR the readings is about 160 so I guess it is close. I just replaced a bad sending unit a new one and was not sure.
Thanks
Dave

I don’t believe the gauge was ever meant to be linear. The range is from 100 to 250 with the half way point being 210. With the variation in sending units, your best bet is to check out your installation with an IR gun.

He did check it out with an IR and got 160 at the mark he described. He wanted to know what it should be at that mark. 160 is about as close as you can get with all the variables. I think he did well with the sender installation.
