Default 61 Engine Pad

Can someone post a picture of a '61 front engine pad. A friend of mine is going to look at a one, and he would like to have an idea of what it should look like. What kind of time frame would there be from build date on the pad to actually going in the car?

This is a pretty sorry picture of my original '61 pad...just haven't gotten around to trying to get a better one. The "CU" suffix indicates a 270HP car. The "F" prefix means a Flint block. The stamp pad date is May 2nd 1961.

My car was built around May 18th '61 and the block casting date is April 27th '61.
THAT date is on the very rear of the block behind the intake manifold.

Your friend should not go to any extreme measures to view the stamp pad - no steel wool to 'clean it up' etc as changing the texture (e.g. broach marks) is a bad move.

Making a judgement on a pad with a picture, and no experience is crazy. If your buddy wants a "numbers" car, he needs to get educated, and probably hire someone who knows what they are looking at. There lots of factors that determine and original block, and some exceptions. If he is paying the money for a numbers car, then he should hire someone to check the car out. If he is paying for a non numbers car, then it really doesn't matter........it is what it is. Trying to get an understanding of the "nuances" of engine stamps, engine build dates, car build dates, broaching, and all of the other stuff that goes into what makes a car "original", goes a lot further than the time between engine build and car assembly. Just my two cents.
