If you look closely at the angle of the teeth, and laid a straight edge at the root of one tooth on the M22, it would almost (but not quite) come out at the top of the corresponding tooth next to it, whereas on a M20/21 the straight edge would come out roughly in the middle of the tooth next to it. Clear as mud? anyway if you know what to look at it is very easy to tell.
Correct.
The tooth angles are the BIG, MAJOR difference. The M22 gears, with the lesser tooth angle, are by design much stronger--------------------but also VERY noisy. The M22 trannys make an unmistakable whine in 1-2-3 gears. Your pansy sissys don't like this whine noise-------------------I LOVE IT!

i like to hear a gear whine going through the gears, but am not fond of it in direct drive gears...

Besides the gear teeth angle, I see the syncro rings (brass colored)are thicker and the lower shaft is much heavier as well. Good pics, thanks John, saved! Have any of the t-10?

All '66-up Muncies used the 1" countershaft ('63-'65 was 7/8"). Don't have any good T-10 gear photos, but they look essentially the same as M20/21 Muncie gears.
