My '67 427/435 always starts easily when it is cold or has sat for a while. However after it has reached normal operating temp and is then shut off it is nearly impossible to re-start.Anyone guess what's wrong. New wires coil points(t i was replaced) plugs etc. Starter seems fine ,it just won't catch. Could it be a inadequate battery? I always thopught it was harder to start a "cold" car then one warmed up. thanks - george
What you have to do is determine if it is fuel or ignition.
Since it is temperature related I would suspect either ignition coil or condenser.
When it doesn't start you should take the coil wire out of the cap and hold it approx. 3/8" away from a good ground and crank the engine. You should see a bright blue spark and it should crack. If it is yellow or no spark, you have an ignition problem. You should substitute a good known coil first. If that don't correct it, I would try a new condenser.
You will find that it has HOLLYITIS. The rear meetering plate is warped and leaking into the carb. This causes flooding after the engine is warm. To check for this. Remove the aircleaner. Run the engine for a little bit and shut it down. Without touching anything, look over into the back barrels and you will see them getting wet with gas.
