I am trying to seprate my hand brake cable from the backing plate on my 63 vette. The cable is held on the backing plate with what looks like a cone with 4 or 5 fingers.
I broke this little clip trying to remove it on a spare backing plate i had and don't want to do that to the one on the car.
Any tips/tricks to remove this clip and hand brake cable from the backing plate would be appreciated.

Open up a small side-screw-type hose clamp and place it around the wide base of the "fingers" and tighten the clamp; that will compress all the fingers at once so you can pull it back through the hole.
