Yes, easy do it yourself job. I went with leather headrests to match the seats, headrests only came vinyl from the factory. Really improves the looks of the seats imo.
OK, this is a list (from Wilcox) of just what you would need for the headrest conversion:
Head rest covers...black leather $67.26
Head rest conversion kit...66-67 $228.72
Head rest foam...67 (2) $56.98
Head rest bezel screw set (4) $ 1.89
Head rest bezel (2) $36.08
_______
$390.93
So, to that number subtract 10% and then add shipping. The only thing you need to add to the above would be having the conversion kit welded to your seat back frames. Now, doing the above assumes you've got all your reupholstery parts for your seats themselves.
Think it's worth the money for the headrest conversion.
Think this would work on a '64 seat back. You guys who have '64s' should chime in here.

My headrests came together, was about $300 if i remember correctly for everything. Did aprox 5 years ago. I bought from LIC. Just a few welds with a tig or oxcy/act.
and will it work on a 64??? been looking for this since my last accident left me with a titanium bracket in my neck.
whatever it costs it has to be better than a bionic spine
Ouch! Me, too, almost 30 years ago. Not as bad as yours, but it took a couple of years to get 90% of my neck function back. My solution was to transplant some '84 seats into the '64. Easier on your butt for long rides, too.
I saw her in the rearview mirror, coming too fast on a rainy day, next time I won't stand on the brakes to try and protect the guy in front of me at the light!
The only problem I see in converting pre-67 seats to headrest seats is that there are no latches on these seats. My 65 seats will fall forward with a firm stop. If you have the headrests they will flop forward even easier. Also, the new headrest could hit your dash or your glove box door on a fast stop.
I don't think they will work on 63 or 64 seats because the seat backs arn't deep enough for the bracket.
My buddy had 67 seats in his 65. I converted them to headrest seats with 65 covers. That is the way to go. However, a bit expensive.

know the feeling, i heard the squeel of brakes and thought someone was going to get hit. Woke up across the street, the police found him 3 miles away with the gas filler lid imbedded in his hood. Then he sued me!!!

But even though the C2 gas tank is behind the rear axle with but one frame rail and some thin fiberglass to protect it, there seem to be relatively few fires in these collisions.
