My winter project on the 59 is to replace the **** rug I put in 40 years ago, I got all the floor adhesive off and finally received the Al Knoch red carpet today. I trial fitted the dirvers side and to say that it fits like s*&*t is an understatement. When putting the carpet in the slot for the gas pedal pins, its about 1 1/2 too long, to make it fit I would have to cut the vinyl edging and cut holes out for the seat bolts. I also think that they cut the forward edge for the front of the door the same length to the rear. I would expect some trimming on the non-vinyl edges but this is really off.
Has anybody had this problem with Knoch carpets, the label on the package said for 59-60 red carpet, but it almost seems like it would fit a 61-62 better, ordered this thru Paragon. I'll be calling Paragon in the morning about this, I am probably screwed !
If you haven't already cut the carpet I think Paragon will make it right ... I had some real good luck with them when the power window kit they offer had different parts than shown on their web site.
I had the same problem with my 59. See my prior thread. The original passenger side rug from AK had some black marks on it. When I returned it and got a new one, the new one is lighter in weight and felt "thinner. Also, the new rug doesn't fit tight over the hump between the seats. it kind of "bunches" and won't lay flat. The vinyl trim piece that runs at an angle on the passenger side of the shifter wasn't sewn correctly and that also kind of bunches at the end. The rug area between the door sill and seat isn't cut properly and there's "too much rug" and won't lay flat. The rug at the front inside corner of the seats is cut too short and when the seat is pushed back, the floor shows. This is your basic POS and I can't understand why something this simple can't be made correctly. All you need is some planning. If you can make it bad, then you can also make it good. Why sell s***?
I installed ACC as well and the carpet fit, thickness and color were perfect. There was a thread a while back blasting ACC quality but I sure haven't had a problem with them...
I purchased the carpet thru Paragon, called their tech center yesterday and sent them pics. Waiting for them to call back, they said that most carpets that they receive need massaging to get them to fit correctly. Still waiting ofr a call back, but I just cant see how a little massaging is going to get these to fit correctly.
Hopefully Ill get a call today
Only carpet trimming I did on my '61 install was around the kick panels and under the bottom center console trim (that was it). Did have to run a soldering iron though the carpet for the inboard seat mounting bolt holes. Didn't use a single drop of glue either.
Reading this thread makes me feel better. I just received some ACC carpets for my '62 but the car is in winter storage and I won't be able to check the fit for 4 months. I am cautiously optimistic. I hope they last 20 years like the ones they are replacing. Bob
I had the same problem with my '59 ACC carpet set I got about 2 years ago. I ordered through one of our sponsored vendors. Everything fit except the drivers side. When the DS carpet was fitted to the gas pedal studs, it was 1 1/2" too long where it meets the sill step. I had to send it back, along with my original as a template for them to fix it. They had to take it apart at the binding near the sill step, cut 1 1/2" off along the entire width, then re-bind it and sew it back together. I was quite baffled I had this problem. ACC made it right but how could this happen?
6 months later I ordered a ACC black set for another '59. Guess what, same problem! 1 1/2" too long in the same place. I couldn't believe it!
How could ACC have this measurement wrong, only on a few carpet sets? Maybe they have fixed this problem since then, but hearing the AK has the problem now is very confusing. I was planning AK carpet for another '59 I'm restoring right now. Now I'm wondering.
I got a call from Ken @ Paragon, he explained that all carpet needs to be trimmed so that it will fit. Since I dont live too far, so I am going there on Monday, they have a 59 in the shop and he is going to fit the carpet in it for me and shew me some trickes to getting it to fit.
This will be interesting as when I measure from the insulation to the pedal pins its right on, when measuring from the pins to the seats the carpet is 1 1/2 in too long.
I just finished installing a set of ACC pre-molded carpet in my '65 Coupe. I purchased this several years ago from Willcox and just got around to installing. Carpet fit well (I put over Polar Cool and jute). Had a problem with a piece that was miscut during the manufacture and Willcox and ACC replaced that piece several years after the initial sale.

Excellent customer service!
Did all my new interior and willcox is the best group of guys to deal with here in the c2 section to me..... Robert
My AK set fit OK in the back but the front was a horrible fit. I finally got pi$$ed and pulled it all out, set it out for the garbage man and got the ACC front set from Wilcox. It fits like a fine glove. It laid in perfectly and looks great.

I think that pretty much sums it up. Maybe the Kool-aid drinking AK lovers should take note.
