Default Need help with fuel pump (pics inside)

I have what I was told is the original fuel pump off of my 65 365 horse. On top it says "AC" and on the flange it is stamped with 40083 IJ. Currently the car has a replacement AC Delco and the pivot rod is falling out. I would like to rebuild this pump. Here are my questions:

1. Is the stamped gold base correct or did the original part have a cast bottom?
2. Would the rebuild kit for any AC Delco 40083 work?
3. Are there any date codes on these?
4. Is there supposed to be a metal tag with a part number as well and if so, were can I get one?

My mechanic doing the suspension work said it is definitely NOT an original pump but rather a newer adjustable style and once again I call BS. He has been wrong about other things with my car and I think he is wrong about this too.

Thanks!

According to the 65 Judging manual, what you have is an original style part, that should pass judging. Your wrench probably thinks the pump should have a cast bottom instead of the steel plate. Stop...you're both right. Either one is acceptable. My nos pump has a cast bottom. The tags were used on later service replacements.

I am surprised that you do not appear to have one of these manuals, as long as you have been on this site.

That book answers virtually any questions about correct appearance. (Appearance being the operative word, here.)

Of course, as with any information handed down over a long period of time, it may not be complete/absolutely correct, but I have no complaints, so far.

I would think any kit for that number pump would work fine. I would look for the newest kit, because of today's fuels.

It could be a rebuilt as well. Tons of originals got rebuilt with different tops and bottoms on assembly lines. I just bought a bunch of them, some with AC on the top, some with cast bottoms in a couple of styles, some with the gold pressed steel ones. Nobody rebuilt them in the old days, you just took it in and got one off the shelf, and left yours as a core. I'd bet 99% of cars don't have the pump they came with.

Which is why I called it original "style", that would pass judging.

So you are saying that the original pump would have had a cast bottom or are you saying that either bottom came off the assembly line? I do have an NCRS judging manual but I loaned it out. I guess I'll rebuild this pump and leave the gold stamped steel bottom on.

Could have had either a cast or stamped bottom cover. If you decide to rebuild it, make sure the kit is compatible with E10 gasoline; many of the kits are NOT.

I'm sending it to Arthur Gould for rebuilding and E10 compatible gaskets.
