Friend of mine needs a windshield for his 59. Anyone know a good source. They have them on ebay for $200.00 by Auto City Classic but that sounds cheap. I wondered if they fit right and are the same thickness.
I don't have any experience with Auto City's 53-62 glass, but I haven't had any complaints with their 63-67 glass.
I'm not sure about the thickness, but their 63-67 windshields, door and vent glass; as well as coupe rear windows (both split window and 64-67), have all fit perfectly. The LOF markings appeared correct, too.
Check your local glass shop. I buy all of my glass locally (tinted, no date code) for about 125 bucks. The side glass is a little tougher, but the windshields are available everywhere. Good luck.

Mike, as usual, is right on. One might think that something as rare as one for a vintage Corvette would require a special order, but they are in stock at the regional distribution centers..
If your friend is a "numbers guy" meaning he prob wants the LOF etch and date code so Auto City or OEM glass (where I got mine) can provide an untinted, date-coded windshield. Otherwise Mike's given you the best advice.

Moxie-
I've used Auto City in my shop for the past ten years. No issues with this glass what so ever.
I've personally installed.. (And it will be my last one...) three this year. For some reason I have always felt compelled to make sure I was in on the install of c1 glass... but I've done my time on the windshields... and the guys in the shop can handle it...
But my advice is as mentioned above.... This is not an easy installation and you need to make sure you have a competent shop doing the install. If your friend decides to do it.. maybe he should message me for some tips. Willcoxcustomerservice@willcoxcorvette.c om. We can swap numbers and I'd give him a call.
But.. if he is interested, give Norm a call tomorrow. We buy wholesale from Auto City and we may be able to save you some money. I'm not sure.. I never hang out in the parts store so I lose track of what things cost now days. 800-588-3883.

Autocity has their windshields for $200.00 plus shipping on ebay. That's pretty cheap I think. I sent him an email asking how thick was his glass and how well do they fit. His reply was:
"The glass has not had any fit issues. It is one of the thicker ones on the market. It will always be just thinner then original because todays installation standards require you should put a bead of urithane in the gasket to prevent it from poping out in an accident".
I do not buy that answer. It sounds like an answer someone would give you if all they were selling were the thinner glass. Maybe that's why it is cheap because it is thin.
I looked at the eBay listing and I don't think this is the same glass we buy from them.
The one we purchase has the LOF on it and comes dated. The windshield they have listed on eBay may just be a generic replacement glass... I'm not sure. Because I only deal in the reproduction windshields from them it leads me to wonder if they have a cheaper "Replacement" line.
One thing you can bank on.. I'm calling them on Monday to find out just for own curiosity.
