Default Back to the Future - Oil Filter Canister

Have the oil filter conversion in place in my 64 Coupe.

Would like to get it judged next year, and wondered how difficult is it to change the mounting back to utilize the Factory Oil Filter canister.

Thanks

Its two bolts to take out the conversion kit - a 10 minute job...

If its a Mr. Gasket just reverse these instructions.

Smokey Yunick and contributors to the book "Hot Rodding the Small Block Chevy" recommended the original factory set-up for racing because of greater exposure for the filtration element AIR. My wife's BMW's use a similar cartridge arrangement, but more conveniently accessed from the top of the engine.

But spin-on technology has probably caught up over 50 years.

Guys,

Ran into a problem when I went to remove the spin-on conversion.

This is the one that was installed:

When we removed it, there was no bypass valve to work with the canister oil filter. Had to reinstall the conversion, go home, order the new/old parts, and will try again next week.

Just a heads-up.

Many of the OEMs are going back to the cartridge type filters. The Germans were the first, followed by Toyota in their Highlanders and you are seeing it on some of the lower end Chevrolets.

I just bought a 2012 Camaro with a 6 cyl, 320 HP, as a daily driver.

It uses a cartridge filter but they got smart, unbolts from the top of the engine (upside down), so you don't get soaked in oil.
