Others have used JB Weld, made a mold and poured the camel humps and filled the holes. Be a bummer if you ever wanted to use these heads on a newer application that needed the holes.

Does the oil filter bypass valve have a gasket between it and the engine block? I forgot to remove the valve but my machine shop naturally removed it for the machining process so I wasn't there to see if there gasket under it. Every new bypass assembly I see being sold includes a gasket but I read somewhere that GM never used a gasket between the bypass valve and the engine block. Also, if there is a gasket does anyone have a part number?

Any help is appreciated.

I just remembered I hadn't updated this thread in a while. Here's some pictures of the assembled and painted engine:

Something else I did was remove, paint and reinstall the rear deck hinge springs. So long as a person uses enough shims getting the springs out and back in again isn't that big of a deal. I also painted the hinge support towers or whatever they're called. I didn't want to install new carpet and show a big bunch of contrast between the carpet and the hinge supports.

For anyone looking to remove/reinstall the springs I suggest limiting the length of the shims to about 2½" to 3". If the shims are too long it becomes difficult to rotate and remove the spring from the lower hook.
