C2 of the Year Finalist - Modified 2020
Default BIG question

I have all the original chrome parts (bumpers in use on car) stored away that came off of my car when they were only 7 years old. Lights F/B, door handles, mirror, grill, exhaust tips, emblems, and some other replaceable misc parts. The major mechanical parts and the car will NOT be sold at any time in my future according to my current plans. QUESTION....should I sell all the leftover parts? If so, it'll be here on the CF. Whoever should end up with the car in the distant future will have the critical/correct parts and can do as he or she wishes. Dennis

I would keep them with the car. You'll be doing someone a great favor in the future.

IMHO, original parts stay with the car. It may be a PITA to keep them, but I think it will add some value and selling appeal later when the time comes to sell.

That reminds me of when I sold a 60' model two top original 270 horse car back a bunch of years ago. I got several boxes full of stuff with the car that the original owner had bought; almost every external piece of replacement trim, lights, bumpers, and a wiring harness, plus he had an extra 4 speed, and a complete 2-four set up for the car, and a DZ 302 that he was going to put in it to "save" the original motor. I was running out of room, and sold the car.... When the new owner came to pick it up, I told him the only way he was getting it was if he hauled off all of those boxes of sh** too. He did.

Good points guys. Here's my thinking so far. Storing the parts is not an issue, after all, they have been in dry storage since '74. All the parts are in very nice condition. (Remember, all the parts that I bought replacing the orig are genuine GM with numbers.) Nice enough I think, to be candidate parts for reuse on a survivor car restoration. All the key number matching parts are not involved in this. I tend too think that the potential reuse of the parts in question out weighs the small amount of "thrill" that the future owner might get as he loads up all the real important orig. parts. Dennis

When I sold my 66, I gave the guy all kinds of parts with it, and shop manuals and other books that were invaluable when working on the car. He turned around a year and a half later trading the car in at a dealer on a new van. I have no idea what happened to all the stuff I gave him. If I had to do it over again, I would have kept or sold all the stuff to someone who appreciated it. Don't count on the next owner to be like you, or he may even flog the stuff. You won't get any more $$$ for the car throwing in the free stuff.

2nd. I've replaced a lot of parts and also have everything labeled so the next owner or my kids will know exactly where it goes and everything could be put back to original if they want to do that.
