Default T10 identification

I have a 1961 Corvette (car built in March 1961) with a T10 4 speed transmission that I am trying to identify. The main housing (cast iron) has "T10 IB WG Div" cast into the right side. Below that is cast "G.26.62" which I believe is the casting date? On the left side is samped "WJ62-2", which I believe is the assembly date stamp? The rear housing numbers and dates make sense, T10 7B WG Div, 7-20-60. From what I've read the T10 1B was used for 1960 and early 1961 only, late 1961 and 1962 used the T10 1C. My question is, how does a T10-1B (Cast Iron) housing have 1962 casting and stamping dates on it, or am I missing something?

Sounds like a Service replacement main case - owner years ago probably tore it up and it needed a new main case, or it just had a mix-and-match rebuild at some point with a Service case.

"Service case" implies that it was purchased over the counter from Chevrolet. In that "case", it wouldn't have an assembly date. The main case probably came from a Buick,Olds, Studebaker car that still used the 1B case through '63. In other words, the case was replaced from a used trans, not with a new case.

Buick used the T-10 1B main case thru the 1966 model year...

Hope this helps... Crash
