66 Horn button
I am trying to replace the horn button (circular part with flags) on my 66. Does not have telescope steering wheel. I have the new part, but can't figure out how to remove the old part. Is there a trick to this?? Do I need a special tool?
Thanks,
Mark

Re: 66 Horn button (hot1corvette1)
Sure hope someone answers this. My horn has been apart since the day I owned mine and I haven't even tried to figure it out. sure would like to figure it out. Sure I can rebuild anything in the engine bay but a horn button and I am suddenly the worlds biggest idiot. Really hope somebody has the answers.

The horn button on a 66 without telescopic wheel just snaps in place.
To remove it just pull it off or pry in gently with a screwdriver being careful not to scratch it. The new one should just snap into place.Hope this helps. I have taken mine on and off several times while doing various restoration jobs.

"How does the horn button come off"
Just pull it off gently. To put back on, center and align, and push on.
Warning, horn will go off!
I studied it for about an hour, pry a little and get nervous, pry some more, then push it back in place. Did these about a dozen times until my dad came upon the scene, reachen in the window and yanked it off. Told me to quit farten around and mow the yard :smash:
Mine had a rattle, turned out to be some lose mounting screws. I am glad I investigated, found the steering wheel screws a tad loose as well. Put a drop of lock tight on each. I would hate to have the steering wheel fall off :smash:

Re: 66 Horn button (Pillman7)
Thanks, all.
That is the hint that I needed. I originally tried pulling it off, but I did not pull hard enough because I thought it would break something. Now I know.
This forum is great. Thanks.
