Maybe too brittle with age (cracks suddenly 'showed up') but the clock lens needs to be replaced. It looks like there are several ways to go about effecting a good fix. Thinking of going with the mechanical fix and using screws to replace the post rivets. I've never done it but does pot metal thread well enough to work ok?
As an aside and in general, if successfully removed has anyone reused the original post rivets to reattach and hold firm the retainer ring to the bezel?
I have had great success in using the old rivets. When I remove the lens from the bezel, I us a very tiny thin screw driver and pry between the two rivets gently. If you do this slow, there is a good chance the retainer will come lose without pulling off the rivets.
If you lose one out of the six, you'll be ok.. maybe two. When I go back together I use a small stake punch on top the rivet.. Been doing it this way for year and I can only think of a handful of times where I've had to replace the bezel or replace with screws.
In the instance where I've had to make a choice of screws of glue.. I always use the screws.
I'm leaning towards using screws but if the rivets come out ok and look good for reuse, I'm thinking to go with reinstalling those rivets. Thanks, Ernie for the extra bit of how-to.
