Default Another steering column question

I'm working on a '64. Does the lower steering column bearing get pressed into the bottom of the steering column tube? If so, is there a trick to doing so. It doesn't seem to want to go in even with the edge of the tube. any suggestions?
Thanks in advance...Bob

In the car or on the bench?

If in the car, use a Rubber mallet. Its likely the angle of the steering shaft is making it a snug fit.

If on the bench and it wont go in, something else is wrong.

The bearing race just locates into the mast jacket, and the bearing rides on the race.
The original and replacement bearings/races are slightly different and not compatible with each other.

It's out of the car, on the bench. Thanks for your answer.
