There is a difference between numbers matching and original. Non-original parts can be made into numbers matching. Original parts are always correct though. Depending on the part you're looking at, it is easy or hard to tell the difference. Non-original or non-numbers matching aren't bad, they're just different than original parts. It all depends on what you want to do with the car. (nice driver, car shows, Corvette judging like Bloomington or NCRS, etc)
If you really want to learn more about your car, join your local NCRS chapter and bring your car for Flight Judging. (and bring a notebook and a good pen)

Make that two pens and a few sedatives....... or 18 year old scotch is acceptable, but not advised to take together!
Firstly, thanks for the input. I guess I should have asked 'How do I confirm if it has original motor and tranny'.
I will follow up however on the local NCRS chapter.
Thanks again.
DJ,
Assuming you have a C2, you can tell if the engine and tranny are original by checking the vin derivative on the front pad of block and drivers side flange on transmission. You compare those to the VIN plate located under the glove box. If they match chances are good at least those came with the original car.
