Default Found a hidden number

I sanded my engine bay and beneath black paint I found this number - any ideas?

yes it is a "job" number the factory line workers numbered the cars from 1 to 499 and started over. you should find that same number on each door, on the outside of the bulk head in front of the gas tank, and behind the dash. and if your lucky to have a build sheet it would be on there too

I figured it was something like that - the Lamborghinis of the '60s to the 70's were numbered in much the same manner - but they were in sequence - since the production numbers rarely exceded 600 - in later years the used the last three numbers of the VIN

Would also add based on number this is a St. Louis produced car.
