I am just about to replace my Delco Professional 650 with the same. Since everything is apart on the car, and the battery is 8 yrs old, I don't want the aggravation of having a weak battery when it all goes together for restart. Dennis
I've been using a NAPA 65 month, group 24 battery for nine years. It still holds a charge, but it's starting to crank more slowly than it should. When it gets replaced, I'll buy the same battery again.
This is the battery I have used for the last 3 years. It's a replica Delce R-59 for the 67 corvette but you can get the the correct looking '63 battery. They are maintenance free built to todays standards.
The only downside is they are more expensive than regular new batteries. But as far as function ability and looks - I like mine alot.
This AC-Delco Professional Series #24-7YR has been in my '67 for eleven years; the same model in my '69 Z/28 lasted twelve years until I replaced it last summer.

I like the switch were did you get that john ? what are the delcos running these days ! I am thinking new battery since i will be changing air supply hose on next warm day !
[QUOTE=JohnZ;158 The AC-Delco Professional Series batteries are $85-$90; seems reasonable for 11-year life. [/QUOTE]
Don't be disappointed if your new one doesn't last very long. They used to be a great battery but since Delco doesn't make them any more, the quality is garbage. My GMC has gone through 4 of them in 3 years. Now that it's out of warranty, I bought a Costco battery and the problems are gone.
Virtually all conventional batteries are made by just two companies, Johnson Controls and Exide. The market is so competitive that manufacturing processes are highly standardized to control cost. About the only difference in batteries of similar capacity is the case. Don't obsess about it... Make a good deal on a name brand, and be sure your cars electrical system isn't ruining your new purchase. Bad alternator diodes comes to mind...

I am wondering about the alternator too. I have tried to charge my battery and my charger keeps saying it is "bad". I have taken it to two places to have it checked and both say it is good. Today, I started my car for the first time this year and let it run in my garage for about 15 minutes. Then I took it out and got around the corner from my house and stalled it. It would not restart and I had to have it jumped. I brought it home and disconnected the battery and it did not stall. I am thinking that the battery is bad even though I have two people tell me otherwise.

The warranty on the 7-Year Professional Series is pretty good - free replacement through 50 months, pro-rated from 51-84.

But who wants to be replacing the battery all the time and that's only if you buy one off the shelf. If it's installed under a new car warranty, it's only good as long as the car is under warranty. Even if it's only one day.
Since the Chevrolet service manager is the one that told me they were junk and they replace several of them every week, I'll pass. 4 of them in 3 years is enough.
It's not limited to Delco. My sister has an Acura that was just towed to the dealership with a dead battery. They have replaced the battery 5 times in less than 2 years. The charging system checks out fine with a parasitic draw that's within the normal range. My truck test results were exactly the same.
"Rural King" batteries made by Exide. 6 year warranty. $49.95-$54.95 on sale everyday at your local Rural King Farm/Feed store.
I don't expect anyone to run out and buy one 'cause it's not one of the favorites here. Just passing along what has been good to me since I started buying them a couple years ago. Prior to that, I was 100% WalMart batteries. Formerly made by Johnson Controls and now by Exide. They got too expensive and they cut their warranty. No pro rate so I made the change.
I haven't had a Delco battery in probably 40 years but I've heard of problems with their 5(?) year battery.
I buy a lot of batteries but that's because I have a lot of uses for them. In the last 15-20 years, the WalMart 3-6 year batteries have all lasted about twice the length of their warranty period. All except one in my memory. Getting 10 years out of a battery anymore is not uncommon at all.
