Had the front grill out this week working on ac connections for the dyer. I decided to spend some time cleaning up the grill. Tried using the dremel and cleaned it up, but I'm not pleased with the results.
Pulled up a few prior threads.Do all the fronts grills from 63 thru 67 use the dull aluminum paint if you want to refinish ??
The original finish was annodized. You can find a shop that does that, if you want originality or you can paint it. You could probably get some kind of aluminum color from a paint supplier that can match it up close to the annodized look.
I am doing my 63 for the second time. First time I drilled out the rivets and TRIED to polish the bars. Sand blasted and painted the bar brackets. Was not happy. As of today I am waiting for my grill bars to come back from the anodizer along with the re-anodized side and lower mouldings. A price quote will give you a heart attack.
I also powder coated the brackets and I will re-assemble with #6 stainless screws and a nyloc nut and thin plastic washer.
Repo is the cheapest but you get what you pay for. I am now a believer in restoring original pieces. Just be on good heart medication.

Taking that apart and refinishing and polishing is a labor intensive job. I opted for a nice used original part and sold the old one to offset the cost. Pilot Dan

I spent a good part of the afternoon and then some with that dremel and polishing compound. Thanks John for the info regarding the grills. You can definitely see the difference in certain years. Time to regroup and explore the options !!
