I would like to thank everone on the forum that has given me so many helpful tips on codes and where to fine numbers. I still would like to know what should be the correct numbers on my block. The engine was made Jan. 19,1966 The block casting is 3869942 and the vin #is 194376S111420 I have an idea but something isn't matching. Can someone help me figure it out thank you .
The website link below will help you locate and write down all of your code numbers from your engine block. After making a note of them, post them here and the experts will help you.
This is the date I found from that black magic list from my vin# I can't find a date cast in the back top of the block.
It is not easy to find the first time. It's sort of behind the RH cylinder head. Easier to find and read if you remove the ignition shielding that obstructs the view.

on a BB its on the passenger side of the block below the oil rail in front of the starter.
It's not exactly clear what your question is. In your prior post on the same general issue (3/30/12) you further stated that the VIN on the engine stamp pad is 6112215, but the car's VIN is 6111420. You also provided that the suffix on the stamp pad is IL. Both John Z and I responded to you that while that appears to be a correct 427 block for a 66 Corvette, it is not the original engine to your car and came from a different car produced some 795 units later.
What is it that doesn't seem correct to you now, and what more are you trying to figure out?

I guess what I'm trying to figure out is what the original engine is to read and what this guy sold me so I can defend what I have to tell him. It looks like I got hoodwinked on an engine that was to be original and isn't . The engine reads TOIO7IL 6112215 and should read TOII9IL 6111420. If this is correct in my findings. So I think you guys answered many of my questions. thanks. so much
Yep He gotcha. Hope you have some recourse because it definately isnt the original motor. But on the bright side that car may be out there looking for it's original motor and willing to pay for it. Shemp
